Colossians 1:13 NKJV - "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love."
Commentary: Speaking about "Power" we should not overlook the power of the evil one. But when you study this, understand that the word "power" used in this verse is not the same as the Dynamic Power of God used in many of the passages we've looked at already. The "power" of Satan has to do with his authority, especially over the wickedness in our world and in man's sinful nature. Satan has control over the sinner inasmuch as he can tempt and influence the sinner to succumb to seduction to do what is wrong. This is where all of us were at one time, note Ephesians 2:2 where Paul says, "In which you once walked according to the...power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." Before you knew Christ, you were under Satan's authority. What our Daily Verse tells us is that God has delivered us from this authority over our lives. Now that we have been saved, we receive the effects of Christ's salvation: "...that we should no longer be slaves to sin..." Romans 6:6. Being delivered from the "power of darkness" we are set free to enjoy living a righteous life! More about this in future studies, but please don't miss the main point today: You have been set free from a sinful life style and you have been given freedom to live a life in the kingdom of Christ! What a wonderful contrast!
