Insights on Today's Reading
Matthew 9 - This chapter shows Jesus' authority to forgive sins, verse 6; His call of a man who worked for the Roman government, verse 9; His teaching that He came to call sinners to Himself, not self-righteous people, verse 13; the need for a new life in a sinner, verses 16,17; His power to heal old illnesses, verses 20-22, and to raise the dead back to life, verse 25; His compassion for the blind, verse 29,30; His compassion for the multitudes, verses 36; and, His call for His people to cry out to God to send more laborers into the harvest fields, verses 37,38.
Matthew 10 - I've found this chapter to be a great passage on Jesus' call for His people to be disciples and go out into the world to reach the lost. Jesus spoke of the power of the Holy Spirit to aid His followers when they were persecuted and called to give testimony regarding their faith, verses19,20. He emphasizes the need to love Him above all others, verse 37.
