Daily Bible Reading for Week of April 15-21, 2018
4/15 Luke 24 - Luke brings his Gospel account of Jesus' life to a close but in so doing he prepares his readers for the Book of Acts, which would be his next book to write. Luke speaks of Jesus' resurrection and makes it very clear that Jesus rose physically from the grave! Jesus met with His disciples and it is to be noted that He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures! That is the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts today. 4/16 1 Samuel 17-20 - These chapters give us the wonderful account of David's victory over Goliath, but then the growing jealousy of King Saul over David's exploits. It is great to see David simply living his life as he should amidst the dangers around him. 4/17 1 Samuel 21-25 - Though David shows kindness to surrounding nations they don't repay him in kind. Often David's "friends" are all too ready to betray him to Saul, especially noted in chapter 23. 4/18 John 1,2 - John's Gospel opens with the declaration that "...the Word was God..."! And then in 1:14 John makes it clear that this "Word" became flesh and dwelt with men! John shows us Jesus as the Lamb that would take away the sin of the world. Jesus' first miracle was to turn something common, water, into something enjoyable, wine! 4/19 1 Samuel 26-31 - The end of Saul's reign is dismal, with the king seeking a medium to tell him his future. What actually happens is that Samuel appears and tells Saul he will be dead by the next day! 4/20 2 Samuel 1-4 - This book will bring the highs and lows of David's life. It starts with a man claiming to have killed King Saul thinking David will be impressed. David's response is to have this man slain and then David would give a heart-wrenching tribute to Saul and Jonathan. There is strife between David and Saul's family, but God shows His plan to bring the kingdom under David's control. 4/21 John 3,4 - John brings us to the glorious statement that "God so loved the world..."! And to show it John gives us the account of Jesus reaching out to the lost of this world starting with the woman at the well.
