Jeremiah 1:19 NKJV - "'They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,' says the Lord, 'to deliver you.'"
Here's an unusual verse. Jeremiah was basically told by God that his ministry would "fail." In other words, the people who would "fight against" him were the Judean people Jeremiah was sent to preach to! He would preach his heart out but would not see the kind of results he would want. This kind of ministry is certainly not one that any pastor would desire, but there are times when God needs faithful preachers to preach boldly what God wants them to say. Their responsibility is to preach the Word. They can't force the Word to be obeyed or even accepted.
Isaiah basically had the same results as well. Jesus quoted Isaiah in Matthew 15:8 - "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me." Is this the condition of the Church today? Many preachers feel that's true. Even well-meaning Christians can ignore heart-felt preaching simply because their hearts are "far from" the Lord. They can hear a "good message" but do absolutely nothing in response!
The next few Daily Verses will expand on this thought.
Please take this to heart! If you're a preacher - Preach the Word! If you're a listener - listen with the intent to obey.
