Insights on Today's Reading

You will gradually be reading the first nine chapters of 1 Chronicles.  These chapters are not just genealogies, but they do list names of important people either in Israel's history or the nations that had an impact on Israel.  My personal policy in my reading through the Bible is to read every word, including every name, in every verse, in every chapter, in every book, in both Testaments, in the Bible.  It doesn't mean you have to try to pronounce every name, but at least see every name.  They may not be important to you, but they were to God.  Otherwise He wouldn't have put them in His Holy Word.

1 Chronicles 1 - This chapter begins with the primary genealogies of the Bible.  You will read from Adam to Noah's sons.  Then Noah's son, Shem's descendants leading to Abraham and his many sons.  Isaac and Ishmael were not Abraham's only sons.  After Sarah died he married Keturah and had six more sons.  Then Isaac's son Esau's descendants are listed.

1 Chronicles 2 - This chapter details the descendants of Judah who was the most important of Jacob's twelves sons.  The reason is that Judah's descendants lead to David, and through David, to Jesus Christ!  Judah's descendants to David are given.  The name Chelubai in verse 9 is given as Caleb in verse 18.  As you read recognize that there are brief historical comments made about some of the people listed.
