Insights on Today's Reading
Jeremiah 46 - This is a prophecy against Egypt. Basically from verses 1-12 Egypt had attempted to attack Babylon but were soundly defeated. They thought they were strong enough to accomplish that task but they were horribly wrong. From verses 13-26 God warns Egypt of the Babylonians coming and invading their land. The closing verses speak of a return of God's people to their land where they will find rest. Jeremiah 47 - God then predicts punishment against the Philistines, long enemies to Israel. The "overflowing flood" of verse 2 is a description of the Babylonian invasion of their land. The land would be plundered and the Philistines would feel the power of the sword against them. Jeremiah 48 - This is a prophecy against Moab. Verses 1-10 speak of the land being destroyed. Verse 11 speaks of how complacent Moab had been, but they will face being plundered, verse 15. Their cities will be destroyed and they will be ashamed of their idolatry. But, verse 47 predicts a time, probably in the Millennium, when even the people of Moab will be restored to their land.
