Daily Bible Reading for Week of August 26 - September 1, 2018
8/26 Psalms 146-150 - These last five Psalms give a fitting climax to this Song Book of Praise! God has helped His people; He has regathered the outcasts of Israel; His creation breaks forth in praise to its Creator; His favored city, Zion, is filled with joy for its King; and the closing Psalm summarizes all of the book in a joyful song and dance to His greatness!
8/27 Proverbs 1-4 - The opening chapter gives the primary reasons for this great book of wisdom within the first six verses. Then wisdom sounds forth calling men and women to avoid the voices of evil seeking their attention. Chapter 2 gives wisdom to deliver one from evil; chapter 3 stresses the need to trust and lean on the Lord for His guidance. Chapter 4 is the pleading of a father for his son to listen and learn.
8/28 2 Corinthians 9,10 - Paul continues to speak on the subject of giving and that God loves a cheeful and glad giver who knows they can never outgive God! Chapter 10 Paul defends his right to be an apostle and to use his authority in ministering to the Church.
8/29 Proverbs 5-8 - Solomon warns young men that God examines all they do in chapter 5. He gives 7 sins that pretty much cover the iniquities anyone can commit in chapter 6. Young men and women are warned against immoral living. Chapter 8 is a "treatise of the blessing of wisdom" in one's life.
8/30 Proverbs 9-13 - In chapter 9 wisdom is likened to a wise woman calling all to come and learn from her. Starting in chapters 10 through 24 Solomon begins using the literary technique of contrasts to show the glory of wisdom and the foolishness of not learning from it. Generosity is seen to bring greater riches to those who practice it. Even the care of animals is part of the concerns of a righteous man. Receiving and taking regard to rebuke is seen as an honorable trait.
8/31 2 Corinthians 11-13 - In chapter 11 Paul warns believers to watch out for the deception of Satan who can transform himself into an "angel of light." Chapter 12 Paul gives one of the greatest chapters on the subject of God's grace, not only to save, but to enable a Christian to have "pleasure in infirmities." Chapte 13 Paul calls for believers to examine their faith and remember that Jesus Christ lives His life in them.
9/1 Proverbs 14-17 - In chapter 14 Solomon warns against someone following "their own way" which leads to death. Other words of wisdom speak of "soft answers" that can "turn away wrath"; when pride comes then comes destruction; and love can "cover" a transgression.
