Insights on Today's Reading
Ezekiel 16 - This chapter is broken down into four parts. Verses 1-14 give a history of God's hand of grace on Israel when in her infancy she was but an Amorite (Abraham) and a Hittite (Sarah). God took care to raise up a people of His own. Then in verses 15-34, this nation of people became a spiritual harlot and departed from the Lord. Verses 35-59 God speaks of the judgment He would bring against this fallen nation. Finally, in verses 60-63, God would remember His covenant and promises He had made and would restore them to Himself. Ezekiel 17 - An allegory is used here showing Nebuchadnezzar as an eagle conquering Jerusalem. Then, another eagle, Egypt, sought to overthrow Nebuchadnezzar's kingdom but failed. Wiersbe believes that what is mentioned in verses 22-24 is a picture of God raising up a young twig from David's line (Jesus Christ) and will establish His glorious kingdom.
