Insights on Today's Reading
Acts 27 - You could call this the "Shipwreck Chapter of the Bible!" It gives the account of Paul being sent to Rome via a ship with other prisoners. After encountering bad weather Paul warns the captain and soldiers that there will be a "disaster and much loss" verse 10, to the ship. His warning wasn't heeded and the ship encountered a terrific storm that would eventually lead to its destruction. However, during the voyage God assured Paul, verse 24, that he would see all on board, 276 persons, verse 37, would be saved. They ended up on an island without losing a single hair, verse 34.
Acts 28 - This chapter starts with Paul and the others on Malta island. While there Paul shakes off a poisonous snake, verses 3-5, heals the father of Publius, verse 7,8, the man who was extremely kind to the victims. Later Paul will arrive in Rome and witness to the Jews, verses 17-25, and then gave a warning to them for their unwillingness to believe him, verses 25-29. Paul was held under guard but still preached to all who would hear him.
