Daily Bible Reading for Week of February 25 - March 3, 2018
The reading in Numbers this week will bring you into the experience of Moses sending twelve spies into the land of Canaan to spy out the land, gather fruit, and see what the conditions were. When they came back ten of the spies spoke in fear of the inhabitants of the land that they were too strong to be conquered. Only Caleb and Joshua spoke in confidence that God would keep His promises and the Israelites would surely be able to conquer those inhabitants. The people believed the ten spies and God rebuked the nation and promised they would wander in the wilderness for 40 years as a judgment. Only their children would eventually be able to come into the Promised Land. Later in your reading you will read of King Balak hiring the prophet, Balaam to come and curse the children of Israel. God forced Balaam to give a blessing on His people instead. But in chapter 25 it was Balaam's influence that would bring moral corruption among God's people. Someone has said that when Balaam couldn't "curse" God's people he would try to "corrupt" them. That is still Satan's tactic today. The reading in Mark will bring you into Jesus' discussion about marriage, the encounter with the "rich young ruler," and the request of James and John to have a special place of honor in the future kingdom. Jesus heals blind Bartimaeus, and rides into Jerusalem on a donkey on the first "Palm" Sunday. He teaches His followers about faith and prayer and then encounters more skepticism from the chief priests, scribes, and elders. He will give the parable of the vineyard owner and the refusal of his workers to honor him. He would answer the Pharisees and Herodians about paying taxes and the Sadducees about the truth of the resurrection. 2/25 Numbers 12-15 2/26 Mark 10,11 2/27 Numbers 16-18 2/28 Numbers 19-22 3/1 Mark 12 3/2 Numbers 23-26 3/3 Numbers 27-29
