Deuteronomy 29:29 NLT - "The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that He has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions."
This is not necessarily a passage to be called PPIL. This acronym stands for Powerful Passages Impact Life or Powerful Passages Impacting Life. You can take the PPIL and call it a P-Pill or a Powerful Pill to take. Such will be those passages labeled as such and they are the portions of Scripture that have had a direct impact on my life.
This passage from Deuteronomy caught my eye some years ago when I was reading through the New Living Translation, which I have read dozens of times over the last 20 years ever since it was first published in 1996.
Deuteronomy 29:29 tells us that God has "secrets" or simply knowledge that He has no intention of sharing with us in this lifetime. One wonders what heaven will be like as to what else the Lord will make known. That's another subject.
God may withhold a lot but He has revealed a lot! And what He has revealed is placed before us to read, believe, meditate on, and obey. We are accountable for the truth made known to us. But we can't claim "Ignorance is bliss!" The fact that we have the written revealed Word of God so readily available is sufficient reason for God to hold us responsible for knowing its contents and learning what He said. Over and over again we have heard the admonition, "Read your Bibles!" God gave us this wonderful Book to speak to us about Himself and all the wonderful things He wants us to know to make our lives a blessing to ourselves and those around us. We are blessed to have His Word!
Note that this passage also said "our children." The meaning is obvious: teach what you have been taught. Give what you have been given. Pass on to your children the same admonition - they should read and study God's Word themselves. And teach them to repeat this with the next generation.
These Daily Verses are just one more way to reveal what God has said and to encourage our readers to learn these truths and apply them to their lives. Remember, we are accountable to God to "obey all the terms of these instructions."
