Insights on Today's Reading
Exodus 36 - This chapter starts with a rare occurrence! Moses has to tell the people to stop giving! They've given far more than was necessary for the Tabernacle to be completed. A detailed description is given of the work that had to be done. God is showing the care and the precision that went into this holy project. God would have all of His people perform their duty for Him with excellence (at least the best that each one can do). He deserves nothing less. Exodus 37 - A detailed description is given of the producing and building of the Art of the Covenant, the Table for the bread, the Lampstand, and the Altar of Incense. Exodus 38 - A description is given of the building of the Altar for burnt offerings, the Bronze Basin for washing, the courtyard curtains, and the bases to hold the curtains. An inventory of the gold, silver, and bronze used for each item is recorded. The number of adult Israelite men is mentioned here though the actual numbering of the people for this won't be recorded until the Book of Numbers. Are you picking up on the fact that a lot of preparation and work went into the construction of the Tabernacle? And further, do you see the construction was not an end in itself? The Tabernacle would be used of God for years to come. Point: God has put a lot of preparation into building your life and the building is not an end in itself. God has an eternity of activity for you to be doing in His Kingdom! Hold on to this thought. There's more to come!
