Ephesians 6:6 NLT - "Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you.  As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart."

Commentary:

Are you being watched?  The answer is, "Yes!"  But not always from the boss.  You're being watched by Someone with greater authority than any boss!  God is watching.  Proverbs 5:21 NLT, "For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes."  Problem with most of us is that we don't seem to think that is important.  We shrug it off that "God is watching" and we neglect doing our best all the time.  We're often forgetting an important truth we don't speak about a lot but its still very true:  "Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God" Romans 14:12 NLT.

But a Christian should not perform his/her work well just because they are being watched.  A Christian should perform his/her work well just because they WANT TO!!  It should be ingrained in a believer to want to do their best all the time.  In a way, the best critic of what we do is ourselves!  Are we putting forth our best effort?  Are we working diligently using the time wisely that we have?  When we're finished are we satisfied?  A good worker is never really satisfied with, "well, that's good enough."  They want to know they did their best.

A Christian wants to do what God wants with all their heart.  "Put your heart into it" is good advice.  The Lord deserves nothing less, and neither does your boss.  And for that matter, neither should you.  Do you best because it's the best thing to do!
