Insights on Today's Reading
Genesis 22 - Abraham's love is tested. "He who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me..." Matthew 10:37. God knew Abraham loved his son, vs. 2, but did he love God more? What we love should always be looked upon as belonging to God. Then if God wants "it back" we know He has more right of ownership than we have. Abraham's faith was tested too. Had he learned to really trust God? Yes, according to Heb. 11:17. Genesis 23 - Sarah is the only woman in the Bible whose age is given and her burial is detailed. This chapter shows the tender love Abraham had for his wife. Though God had already given the land to Abraham he still paid for the tomb. Other than God's promise of the land to be given to his descendants and the wealth he would pass on to them, the only thing Abraham owned at the time of his death was his grave. Genesis 24 - This is the longest chapter in Genesis. Abraham wanted a bride for Isaac and trusted his servant to go to Abraham's relatives to find the right woman. The servant's prayer of faith is a classic example of trusting God for His guidance. The last time we saw Isaac was on the mountain on an altar ready to be sacrificed. The next time we see him is at the end of this chapter and he's meeting his bride.
