Insights on Today's Reading
Genesis 30 - This chapter speaks of the building of Jacob's family and the building of Jacob's fortune. Tensions arise in his family when Rachel is unable to have children at first. God allows the handmaids to be Jacob's wives as well. (Remember Hagar in the life of Abraham). Jacob has to work hard to ease these tensions and then to acquire his wealth. But God saw to it that Laban didn't get the best of Jacob.
Genesis 31 - The Lord used the growing tension between Jacob and Laban to lead Jacob out of Haran and head him back to Canaan. Even though Laban posed a threat, God warned him not to harm Jacob. Jacob's family unites with him and he leaves a very wealthy man.
