The Church submits to Christ because He is her Lord and He is her Redeemer. The Church recognizes the place Christ as the Head of His body and, therefore, has the right and the power to direct the body as He sees fit. Of course, Christ is a perfect Head and can only do that which is just and right for His people. He loves His Church!
Though the subject of the husband loving his wife hasn't been brought up just yet, it is understood that the wife can and should expect the her husband will love her unselfishly and unconditionally. And a wife who is loved like that can trust her husband to lead her where she should go and will treat her with utmost dignity and respect she deserves. But, let it be clear, the wife is to submit to her husband "in everything." She has to trust her Savior to direct her husband! And she also knows, or should know, that the Lord holds the husband accountable to Him for the way he treats his wife. When a husband is submissive to his Lord he will live in such a way that his wife will have no fear being submissive to him.
Now, as Christians, we set an example to the world of how a good marriage should work. We know that it takes "three to get ready." A godly man and a godly woman can only be that way because each is submissive to their God. Their personal fellowship with Christ assures their enjoyable fellowship and relationship with each other.
