Philippians 3:20 NKJV - "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."
Commentary: Why are we to see ourselves as sojourners and strangers on this earth? Though we may call ourselves citizens of America or whatever country in which we live, we need to remember we were bought by Christ, given a new relationship with His Father, as children, and given a new home, heaven! This world is no longer our home! We're not to live our lives here as this if our permanent dwelling place. We all know we're going to die and leave this life! Even the unsaved have to own up to this fact. That's why people don't want to talk about the "end" because they're afraid! And rightly so. If they don't know Christ as their Savior they have no hope and no peace. But we know where we're going and God's Word reminds us over and over again that our life here is but for a short time. James 4:14 says, "...For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away." Though 70 or 80 years may seem a long time, compared to eternity, it's like a "yesterday when it is past" Psalm 90:4. More importantly, according to yesterday's Daily Verse, we are not to live our lives according to the values and lusts of the world around us. Our home is Heaven and Heaven's values are ours! We're to live as citizens of heaven. Because that is ultimately who we are!
