Insights on Today's Reading

Psalm 119:89-176 - The last half of this Psalm continues to speak of the glories and benefits of the Word of God.  It has always been a challenge for the reader to list all the descriptive words used by the Psalmist to speak of the Bible.  Readers will find that there are five verses that don't give any descriptive words.  Verse 89 reminds us that God's written word will be with us forever.  Verse 97 speaks of the Psalmist's love for God's Word.  Note also verse 105 that speaks of God's word as "a lamp to my feet and a light for my path."

E. M Bounds, in his book The Necessity of Prayer, speaks of this Psalm, "Psalm 119 is a directory of God's Word...often, the writer breaks out into supplication, several times praying, 'Teach me Thy statutes.'  So deeply impressed is he with the wonders of God's Word, and of the need for divine illumination wherewith to see and understand the wonderful things recorded therein, that he fervently prays, 'Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.'"  Come back to this Psalm often.  As it seeks to impress you with the wonders and power of God's Word, may you find renewed love for the Scriptures and see the impact of them on your daily life.
