Insights on Today's Reading
Proverbs 22 - Verse 1 has helped many people in choosing between "quick riches" or a lengthy admirable reputation. Verse 6 is a familiar proverb to many parents and has encouraged them to never give up in giving their children the instruction and guidance they've needed. Giving a good answer depends on the quality of the education you've received, verse 20, 21. Proverbs 23 - At the beginning and the end of this chapter Solomon emphasizes the dangers that can be found in addiction to alcohol. Verse 5 speaks of how quickly riches can vanish! Verse 7 can be connected to Luke 6:45 and Philippians 4:8 where the "menu of the mind" is far more important than the "menu of the belly!" Proverbs 24 - Don't ever think that those who get wealth from deceitful means are to be envied, verse 1. Verses 17 and 18 reminds all of us not to be happy when our enemy suffers. Verses 30-34 speak of a common theme in Proverbs - hard work always precedes great reward.
