Insights on Today's Reading

In the chronological reading through the Bible, various books, like Proverbs, will be read amidst reading other historical books.  For the next eight days you will read from Proverbs 1 through 24.  Then you'll read more of the history of Solomon and others, and then you'll come back to read more of the Proverbs a few days later.

The Book of Proverbs has become one of the best loved books in the Bible, primarily because of it's practical advice covering almost every subject imaginable.  Approach this book with a heart and head ready to learn and apply what you learn to your life.  You'll be WISE to do so!

Proverbs 1 - Solomon is not the only author, but he has written most of this book.  He starts off explaining the benefits you'll find as you read.  He brings up the subject of wisdom right away because its not what you know that's as important as to how you use what you know in your daily life.  Knowledge is important.  Wisdom makes knowledge invaluable!

Proverbs 2 - The Lord gives wisdom and remember what James says in James 1:5 that God gives this "liberally."  Wisdom provides instruction on how to handle almost every situation but it also leads it's followers away from evil.

Proverbs 3 - Solomon writes as a father to a son but in doing so he is used of God to let us know what our Heavenly Father wishes to tell us, His children.  He teaches how to handle decision making, how to put God first in your giving, how to conduct your life, and how to treat your neighbors.  I especially enjoyed 3:27 when I was a teenager.
