Deuteronomy 3 - Moses reminds the people of their victories over the two Amorite kings, how the Israelites plundered their land, and how the Lord gave them possession of their territory. This reminder was to assure Israel that God provided the victory for them and it also encouraged Joshua to know this would be the pattern God would follow as they would face the nations within the land of Canaan. It is important for us, as well, to be reminded of the victories we've already enjoyed and to be confident in God's promises as we face future challenges.
Deuteronomy 4 - As you read this chapter try to watch for all the encouragement Moses gave the people of Israel to continue to follow the Lord, to obey His laws, and to love Him. Like many a spiritual leader Moses knew his time on earth was temporary, and Moses knew clearly that he would not lead the people into the Promised Land. He wanted them to always be loyal to the Lord no matter who was their earthly leader. God had done so much for them and had given them excellent laws to obey and to live by. Moses really loved these people like they were his own children.
