Insights on Today's Reading
Deuteronomy 8 - This is one of those chapters in the Bible to stop and reread again and then meditate on what you read. God reminds His children why He allowed some of the things He allowed and what lessons He wanted His people to learn from their experiences. He also makes clear that anything we think we achieve by our own effort is ultimately achieved by God's provision. Learn from this chapter. Deuteronomy 9 - As Israel would move into the land of Canaan they were to understand that they were not getting this land because of their righteousness! God was so angry with the Canaanites that He was removing them from that land. It was God's mercy that Israel would receive this land as their own. Moses also reminded Israel of their own rebellion against God and Moses' intervention and intercession on their behalf. Deuteronomy 10 - Reminders are given of events in Israel's 40 years in the wilderness. Moses was given a second set of the Ten Commandments to place in the Ark of the Covenant. The tribe of Levi was dedicated to God's service. Please note verse 12 and how it compares with Micah 6:8. It clearly gives the requirements of God for a believer to follow to live a life pleasing to Him. Hint: a great verse to memorize.
