I'm staying with the thoughts I shared yesterday regarding our fellowship with the Father. Remember, our fellowship starts with our birth, not our behavior. And what is true at the birth for every child? They have "signs of life" to show they are really alive. The same is true of a child of God. They, too, show signs of life. Soon, in a Weekly Connection, I will do a study of those "signs."
I believe John starts out this letter with a reference to three of our common senses to illustrate this point. Jesus was real. And John gives the evidence: He heard Him, saw Him, and touched Him. The evidence of His reality is made clear and so the signs of a believer's life in Christ are just as real.
For the moment, think about these three "senses" in your own experience with the Lord as you spend time in His Word. Believers can "hear" Jesus as He speaks to them through His Word. They can "see" Jesus as they gaze upon what the Bible says about Him. And they can enjoy the "touch" of Jesus as His Word has a direct impact on their lives. As close as John was to his Savior you also can enjoy that fellowship with Him through His Word.
