Insights on Today's Reading
Numbers 33 - The majority of this chapter rehearses the many locations that Israel traveled through on their way to their present location on the eastern banks of the Jordan River. In reading a chapter like this don't miss some of the "nuggets" of facts that are interesting. One such is verse 4 where it is made clear that when God judged Egypt it was also a judgment against Egypt's many gods. The last part of this chapter gives God's instructions on conquering the land of Canaan and the warning not to intermingle with the inhabitants. Doing so would cost the Israelites dearly.
Numbers 34 - God set up the boundaries of the Israelites new land and had Moses appoint leaders from each of the nine and a half tribes who would oversee the settlement of each tribe in their proper location. Two and a half tribes, Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh had already determined their residence on the eastern side of the Jordan River.
