Insights on Today's Reading
In this chronological reading through the Bible, you will find just portions of chapters are to be read along with other passages which relate together in the Bible's timeline.
2 Samuel 5:1-10 - When Saul died David was anointed king over Judah and would serve there for seven years. Then he was recognized by all of Israel and would be accepted as king over all the land. He would make Jerusalem the capital city.
Please remember that David's life is spoken of from 1 Samuel 16 through the 2 Kings 2. The same period of time is spoken of from chapter 10 through chapter 29 of 1 Chronicles.
1 Chronicles 11 - David is anointed and recognized as king over all of Israel. In this chapter you will read of David's mighty men and the 30 who were closest to him. You'll also read of Uriah the Hittite. In a later sad chapter of the Bible you'll read how this man fits into David's experience.
1 Chronicles 12 - This chapter recounts the time when various men joined David in facing his enemies. These men would become some of David's closest friends and supporters. Thank the Lord for those in your life who encourage you through times of blessing as well as in times of hardship.
