James 3:5 NKJV - "Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles."
"One tree can make a million matches, but one match can destroy a million trees." One match is so small, yet it is also so very powerful! The same can be said of the tongue. It is one of the smaller members of our bodies but it has the power to hurt!
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." I think most people have come to the place in their lives where they KNOW this just isn't true. Words can hurt!! A Christian must avoid cutting remarks, unfair criticism, insults, and any kind of expression that belittles or demeans another. Note Ephesians 4:31 NLT, "Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander..."
Note Ephesians 4:29 NLT however, "Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them." Kind words can heal!!
