2 Kings 4:43 NKJV - "But his servant said, 'What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?' He said again, 'Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord, They shall eat and have some left over.'"
This is part of the "unfamiliar story" of the Feeding of the 100! Read all of this in 2 Kings 4:38-44. The young prophets of Israel who were studying for the ministry were facing a famine and had very little food. Elisha was among them and someone came with a gift of food, verse 42, consisting of 20 loaves of bread and some ripened grain. Now, Elisha took the offering and told the prophets to distribute the food among all of them to eat. Someone cried out and basically said, "How are we going to meet the needs of 100 men with so little food?!" Elisha then gave them the message of our Daily Verse. God would not only give them enough but they would have leftovers! (Sound familiar? Jesus would later take "5 loaves and 2 fish" to feed more than 5,000 people and still have loads of leftovers! See John 6:1-14).
Do you want to grow your faith? Remember Romans 10:17 - "Faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ." Simply put, you grow your faith by reading and really listening to God's Word! Events like this really happened! And they are given to us in the Bible to show that God CAN DO ANYTHING to meet the needs of His people! These great stories are lessons in faith. They are meant to help our faith grow as we see what God did in the past. And He is still able today to do the same. Do you believe that?
I encourage you to read through the historical books of Joshua through Ezra and see the many instances where God showed His ability to "do the impossible!" When you face overwhelming need remember what God did for His people in the Bible. Malachi 3:6 tells us, "For I am the Lord, I do not change..." And that means He is still the miracle-working God He's always been. Are you ready to trust Him?
