Insights on Today's Reading

One of the good reasons for reading your Bible through chronologically is to get a fuller picture of the life and events of people in the Bible.  The chapters you read today deal with David's continued preparation for the temple and for Solomon to take over as the next king.  The book of 2 Samuel doesn't mention much of what you'll read here.  So it is especially helpful that as you read through the life of David in 1 and 2 Samuel that you keep in mind there is more to learn in 1 Chronicles.

1 Chronicles 23 - David was quite an organizer which is a great characteristic of a good leader/manager.  David made sure he had assistants at all levels who could delegate responsibility to each of their subordinates so that all matters of the kingdom would function properly.  This chapter focuses especially on the Levites, their delegated responsibilities and their revised duties once the ark of the covenant will be put in Solomon's temple and it won't have to be carried again from place to place.

1 Chronicles 24 - This chapter especially deals with the 24 divisions of the Levite priests who would oversee the ministry in the temple at their assigned times.  This is the background to Zacharias in Luke 1 who fulfilled his division's responsibilities to serve in the temple.  It was during that service that the angel spoke to Zacharias regarding the birth of John the Baptist.

1 Chronicles 25 - Singing and playing of instruments was a joyful part of Israel's worship and David enjoyed it as much or more than anybody!  He knew music allowed God's people to express their pleasure and delight in God's goodness as they worshiped Him.
