Psalm 141:3 NKJV - "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips."
Commentary: Probably one of the most important areas of our lives is the matter of speech! People can get into so much trouble by what they say, or, on the other hand, they can bring so much good through pleasant words! I hope to share more about this in the Daily Verses of this week. For the moment, do what the Psalmist says, pray that the Lord would "guard" your mouth so nothing gets passed your lips that you would be ashamed of. Pray that you will speak words that are appropriate for each occasion. Proverbs 15:23 says, "A man has joy by the answer of his mouth. And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!" Consider Proverbs 18:21 NLT, "The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences." The point of this verse is the same as Galatians 6:7, "...whatever a man sows that he will also reap." If you speak words that hurt you will cause pain. If you speak words that heal, you will bring pleasure and joy. What will you allow to come out of your mouth today?
