Jeremiah 31:20b NLT - "...I often have to punish him, but I still love him. That's why I long for him and surely will have mercy on him."
Punishment and love do go hand-in-hand. If you really love someone you'll do what you have to do to keep them on the right track. And sometimes a word of rebuke or reproof is necessary, and even some more drastic measures are needed to keep your loved-one from getting into worse trouble. Your honest and humble rebuke is a way to show love!
