Insights on Today's Reading
Matthew 26 - This chapter gives us some of Jesus' last activities before He would be crucified. All through His ministry there were those who hated Him. Though Judas didn't hate Jesus, he was disappointed as he wondered if Jesus would really overthrow the Roman oppression of the Jews. Judas agreed to betray Jesus, verses 14,15. Jesus would celebrate the Passover with His disciples, go to the Garden of Gethsemane, be arrested and face the Sanhedrin. The chapter closes with Peter's denials of His Lord. (But may we not condemn him. How often do we "deny" the Lord by simply ignoring Him during our daily activity). Mark 14 - Jesus was anointed by Mary, the one who sat at His feet in Luke 10. She showed her heartfelt devotion and love for her Savior though she may not have realized she was ",,,doing what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial" verse 8. When Jesus stood before the Sanhedrin He very clearly admitted His deity to them. Verses 61,62 state, "...the high priest asked Him, 'Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?' Jesus said, 'I am..." That was what they wanted to hear to condemn Him, but it is what Jesus wanted them to hear to truly define Him! He was and still is the Son of God!
