Insights on Today's Reading
Matthew 12:22-50 - This passage gives a difficult statement about "blaspheming the Holy Spirit" verses 31,32. Various views are given and I won't be definitive in my thoughts. I do believe that anyone who denies Christ and turns against the conviction of the Holy Spirit will die and spend eternity separated from God. In that respect, refusing the Spirit's call to be saved is "unpardonable." There is no more hope. Jesus goes on to warn people who were looking for "signs" and wonders and missing the obvious message Jesus spoke. Jesus had opportunity to highly regard His family, verses 46-50, but He chose to regard all who would come to Him and believe on Him.
Luke 11 - Jesus speaks highly of importunate praying as He gave the illustration of reaching out to your neighbor in the middle of the night and ask for help. You can also use this same illustration as a great way to pray for the unsaved. They come to you for help and you know you can't save them. So you come to the Lord in intercessory prayer and ask Him to give your unsaved friend the salvation they need. At the close of this chapter Jesus points out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and warns His disciples not to follow their example.
