Ephesians 5:22, 25 NKJV - "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord...Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself for her."
Submissive wives?! Loving husbands?! YEP!! That's what God says and that's what Christian wives and husbands do because they know it works! Though the instruction to the wife to be submissive comes before the instruction to the husband to be loving, a good quote I heard years ago says, "A wife can find it much easier to be submissive to a husband who really loves her." But both husbands and wives should read verses 18-21 before they debate the rest of the chapter!
Paul spoke about being "filled with the Spirit" which makes the Spirit in control of both husbands and wives. Also, note verse 21 where Paul speaks of all believers being submissive to each other! When all members of a family have come to know Christ as Savior and Lord, and are walking with the Lord in submission to Him, they will function as they should with one another. That would have a HUGE impact on our world!
The sad reality of our day is that families are hardly Biblical. Far too many men not only don't love their wives, they don't even get married to the women by whom they have children! And why should a woman be submissive to a man who doesn't love her enough to marry her? And how can children learn what a good marriage is without having a good family to be a part of? We've been watching this for years. Dysfunctional families raise dysfunctional children who wonder what a real "functional" family is like!
God calls all of us to spend time with Him daily in the Word of God and prayer. And He calls for husbands and wives to listen to His instruction and seek to obey what they read. Not only will they find their marriages a joy, but their children will also have great examples to follow as they establish Christian homes of their own.
