Insights on Today's Reading
Matthew 17 - Was Jesus the "Glory of God"? The answer is in verse 2! Jesus was "Transfigured" before His closest disciples to imprint on their minds and heart a magnificent picture of His Deity! Peter would one day write about his experience in 2 Peter 1:16-18. When Jesus came down from the mount He showed His disciples that they needed to fully rely on Him to see power over Satan. The chapter ends with Jesus "paying His taxes," verses 24-27. Mark 9 - Mark starts off this chapter talking about Jesus' Transfiguration which revealed His heavenly Glory and ends the chapter with Jesus warning about the horrors of Hell where the judgment never ends! Luke 9:28-62 - This is Luke's version of the Transfiguration. Luke also speaks of the powerless disciples and the power of Christ. Luke speaks of Jesus' use of a "little child" to show who really is the "greatest." Please note the three examples of those who came to Jesus "ready" to follow Him at the end of this chapter. Jesus pointed out that following Him fully meant being willing to face hardships; put away thoughts of your earthly inheritance; and, have greater love and dedication to Him above all others. How do we measure up?
