Insights on Today's Reading
John 2 - Jesus' first miracle is recorded here, verse 11. He changed a common commodity, water, into something very special, wine. This speaks of the change Jesus can make in ordinary people by creating in them an extraordinary life. Jesus' words to His mother, verse 4, do not refer to any disrespect from Him. Also note in verses 24,25 that Jesus still had His divine attribute of omniscience (all-knowledge).
John 3 - I mentioned in my commentary on Isaiah 53, that it was the "John 3" of the Old Testament. As you read this chapter note the very clear presentation of the basic truth of the Gospel - God loved the world, gave His Son, and belief in His Son would bring eternal life. Very simple. Please also note, the word "repent" or "repentance" isn't mentioned once in the entire Gospel of John.
John 4 - Jesus' encounter with the "woman at the well" is one of the greatest examples of doing personal work in the Bible. Jesus sent His disciples away to buy food, verse 8, I believe so He could have uninterrupted contact with this woman. He revealed to her the sins of her life but He doesn't condemn her. She brings the men of the city to hear Him and they invite Him to come for a couple of days to minister to them. This was a very important lesson for His disciples to see as they would eventually be called to reach "...Samaria..." Acts 1:8, as well as the rest of the world.
