Jeremiah 4:3-4a NKJV - "For thus says the Lord, 'Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your hearts..."
Unprepared hearts are the main reason why so many Christians "get nothing" out of their Bible reading! They expect the seed of God's Word to penetrate the sin-hardened soil of their hearts. Breaking up the hardened soil of unconfessed sin and tearing out the sinful weeds and thorn bushes of worthless habits allows your heart to not only receive the nourishment of God's message but also allows it to grow to practical usefulness in your life. God's Word doesn't just teach, it also changes lives. That's why it is so important to have your heart ready to read, to listen, to learn, and most of all, to obey what God says.
