Insights on Today's Reading
Ezekiel 42 - This chapter describes the priests' personal quarters, verses 13,14, and the final measurements of the Temple. The priests' work was still seen as a most holy ministry and they were not to wear their priestly garments outside the Temple, verse 14.
Ezekiel 43 - The vision in this chapter is that of God's glory returning to the Temple. Verse 3 speaks of the past when God came to destroy the city. Now He would be coming to restore His glory to it. The Lord Himself would dwell in its midst, verse 9. Animal sacrifices are once again introduced in Israel's worship of God. Perhaps the best understanding of this practice is that as the Old Testament Jew looked forward to the sacrifice of Christ, so the Millennial Jew will look back on that same sacrifice. The sacrifices would serve as a kind of memorial.
