Insights on Today's Reading
Ezekiel 35 - The land of Edom, descendants of Esau, is the focus of this chapter. The people of Edom held an ancient hatred against Israel, verse 5. They showed anger and envy against Israel, verse 11. They also spoke blasphemies against God and the Israelites, verse 12. Esau descendants never sought to reconcile to God. Ezekiel 36 - This speaks of God restoring Israel to their land, something we're still witnessing in our day. Verses 8-12 God speaks of multiplying both men and animals in the land. They would be greater than they were at their beginning, verse 11. God promised to restore holiness to the land, verse 25, and bring a "new heart" into each life, verse 26, and lead the Holy Spirit to fill these people with Himself, verse 27. But He would do this for His own sake, verse 22. Ezekiel 37 - The is the famous "Dry Bones" chapter of the Bible! Here you read of a massive amount of human bones scattered over the land. The symbolism is of present day Israel "dried" up spiritually. But one day God will call for these bones to come together into an army, but they would still need one more thing: LIFE! God would bring that to them by His own breath, verse 9. God also ordered Ezekiel to take two sticks, name on Israel and the other Judah. He was to show that these two nations would be formed into one, verse 22. This is all part of God's plan to reunite Israel into His holy people.
