Haggai 1:4 NKJV - "Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?
In Haggai's time the Jews returning from exile in Babylon were to restore the Temple of God to its former glory. Doing so would allow them to have a place for worship and show they honored God more than themselves. But what they actually were doing was to ignore God's house and work on their own. As a result God didn't bless them but actually allowed them to be constantly frustrated trying to find happiness. Do you recognize this in your own life? It will always be true, that when you honor the Lord above yourself and when you seek His will to be done instead of your own, you'll be on the road to real joy and a sense of fulfillment. When God has first place in your life then everything else will fall into its proper place in your life. When you seek to bless the Lord He will seek to bless you! Sacrificing your own pleasure to do God's will is never a bad thing! Just remember, Jesus sacrificed Himself to reach you. And doing so He was thrilled with the results! He sought to do the best for you. Should we not seek to do the same for Him?
